Ingredients

  • 1 cup walnuts Raw shelled
  • ½ cup sugar Granulated
  • ¼ cup water For dissolving sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon salt For seasoning

Method

  1. Add the sugar and water to a medium heavy-bottomed pot. Swirl the pot to help dissolve the sugar.
  2. Place the pot over medium-high heat and bring the mixture to a boil.
  3. Once the sugar starts bubbling, add the walnuts and stir with a wooden spoon until they are evenly coated. Sprinkle salt and continue stirring regularly as the sugar caramelizes.
  4. When the sugar turns golden brown, remove the pot from the heat. Use forks or tongs to transfer the nuts to the prepared parchment or silicone mats.
  5. Use the forks to separate any walnuts that are stuck together and let them cool completely.
