Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder

Caramel Layer

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

Prep:

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line 9x13" pan with parchment.

Brownie Batter:

  • Melt butter, whisk in sugar
  • Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla
  • Mix dry ingredients separately
  • Combine wet and dry ingredients

Caramel:

  • Heat sugar until amber
  • Add butter and whisk
  • Pour in cream carefully
  • Add salt and cool slightly

Assembly:

  • Pour ⅔ brownie batter in pan
  • Add half the caramel
  • Top with remaining batter
  • Swirl remaining caramel

Bake:

  • 35-40 minutes at 350°F
