Ingredients
  

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter 2 sticks
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
Caramel Layer
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • 9x13-inch baking pan
  • Parchment paper
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Medium saucepan
  • Whisk
  • Rubber spatula
  • Heavy-bottomed pot (for caramel)

Method
 

Prep:
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line 9x13" pan with parchment.
Brownie Batter:
  1. Melt butter, whisk in sugar
  2. Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla
  3. Mix dry ingredients separately
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients
Caramel:
  1. Heat sugar until amber
  2. Add butter and whisk
  3. Pour in cream carefully
  4. Add salt and cool slightly
Assembly:
  1. Pour ⅔ brownie batter in pan
  2. Add half the caramel
  3. Top with remaining batter
  4. Swirl remaining caramel
Bake:
  1. 35-40 minutes at 350°F
