Ingredients

Brownie Base
  • 1 cup Unsalted butter - Melted
  • 8 oz Semi-sweet chocolate - Or chocolate chips
  • 1 ½ cups Granulated sugar
  • 3 large Eggs - Room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • ¾ cup All-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup Cocoa powder - Regular or Dutch-process
  • ½ teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Baking powder
Cream Cheese Swirl
  • 8 oz Cream cheese - Softened
  • cup Granulated sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • Orange gel food coloring - For orange swirl
  • Black gel food coloring - Or black cocoa powder

Equipment

  • 1 9x13-inch baking pan (Greased and lined with parchment)
  • 1 Mixing bowl (For brownie batter)
  • 1 Mixing bowl (For cream cheese mixture)
  • 1 Hand or Stand Mixer (To beat cream cheese)
  • 1 Butter knife (For swirling)
  • 1 Sharp knife (For clean cuts)
  • 1 Parchment paper (For lining pan)

Method

  1. Melt butter and chocolate together, then whisk in sugar, eggs, and vanilla. Fold in flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder until just combined. Spread evenly in the prepared pan.
  2. Beat cream cheese with sugar until smooth. Add egg and vanilla, mixing until combined. Divide mixture into three bowls and color one orange, one black, and leave one white.
  3. Drop spoonfuls of colored cream cheese randomly over brownie batter. Use a butter knife to drag through the dollops in figure-eight motions to create a marble swirl.
  4. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 30–35 minutes, until edges are set and the center has a slight jiggle.
  5. Cool completely in the pan for at least 2 hours or refrigerate overnight for cleaner cuts.
  6. Cut into squares with a clean, sharp knife, wiping between cuts for neat swirls.
