  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion - diced
  • 2 cloves garlic - minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon tomato paste
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 cup mixed vegetables - frozen or fresh
  • ½ teaspoon salt - or to taste
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper - or to taste
  • 1 sheet refrigerated pie crust - OR biscuit dough or mashed potatoes
  • 1 cup shredded cheese blend - optional

  • 1 Large skillet (10-12 inch) (for browning beef)
  • 1 9-inch pie plate or 2-quart casserole dish (for baking)
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula (for stirring)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C)
  2. Chop onion and garlic; measure out all other ingredients.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, add a tablespoon of butter (optional) and brown the ground beef.
  4. When beef is halfway cooked, add diced onion; cook until softened.
  5. Stir in minced garlic; cook 1 minute. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  6. Add tomato paste and Worcestershire sauce; stir to coat the meat.
  7. Pour in beef broth; simmer until thickened, about 5 minutes.
