Ingredients

  • 1 Prepared angel food cake - Cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 teaspoon Almond extract - Optional, for flavor
  • 1 box Instant vanilla pudding - (3.4 oz)
  • 2 cups Cold milk - Slightly less than package directions
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract - Adds flavor depth
  • 1 can Cherry pie filling Or use any preferred pie filling
  • 1 tub Whipped topping About 8 oz - About 8 oz, thawed
  • Optional Fresh fruit - For garnish (e.g., cherries, berries)
  • Optional Toasted almonds - For garnish
  • Optional Vanilla soak (2 tablespoon vanilla + ¼ cup milk) - Brush over cake cubes before layering

Instructions

  • Cut cake into 1-inch cubes. Arrange half in bottom of trifle dish. Brush with vanilla soak if using.
  • Whisk pudding mix with cold milk. Stir in vanilla extract. Use slightly less milk for firmer pudding.
  • Spread half the pudding over cake cubes, covering evenly.
  • Spoon cherry pie filling evenly over pudding. Save a few cherries for garnish.
  • Add remaining cake cubes. Pour over the rest of the pudding. Let settle 5 minutes.
  • Spread whipped topping gently over top. Chill at least 4 hours, ideally overnight.
  • Top with reserved cherries, fresh fruit, or toasted almonds. Slice with a hot knife for clean cuts.
