Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs room temperature
  • ¾ cup brown sugar lightly packed
  • ¾ cup light corn syrup for sweetness and texture
  • cup all-purpose flour sifted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract pure vanilla preferred
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted and slightly cooled
  • 2 tablespoons bourbon optional for classic flavor
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips lightly coated with a teaspoon of flour
  • 1 ½ cups chopped pecans roughly chopped
  • 1 prepared 9-inch pie crust unbaked and fitted into a pie plate

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C) and position a rack in the center of the oven.
  2. Whisk the eggs until smooth, then blend in the brown sugar, corn syrup, and flour until the mixture is fully combined and free of lumps.
  3. Stir the melted butter, vanilla extract, and optional bourbon into the filling until evenly incorporated.
  4. Lightly coat the chocolate chips with a small amount of flour, then fold them together with the chopped pecans into the filling.
  5. Transfer the filling into the prepared pie crust and spread it into an even layer.
  6. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until the center is mostly set with only a slight jiggle when gently shaken.
  7. Place the pie on a wire rack and allow it to cool completely before slicing so the filling can fully set.
  8. Slice into portions and serve as is or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
