  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup water - or fruit juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract - optional but recommended
  • 1 box yellow cake mix - (standard size, ~15.25 oz)
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter - cold, sliced thin

Method
