Ingredients

Base Layer
  • 2 cups mini pretzel twists - Enough to cover baking sheet
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed - light brown
  • 2 tablespoon heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Chocolate Topping
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
Finishing
  • Flaky sea salt - Sprinkle on top
  • Crushed pretzels - Optional

Equipment

  • 1 Rimmed baking sheet (Lined with parchment or silicone mat)
  • 1 Medium saucepan (For caramel)
  • 1 Heat-resistant spatula (For spreading caramel and chocolate)
  • 1 Offset spatula (Optional but helpful)
  • 1 Kitchen timer (For caramel boiling time)

Method

  1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or a silicone mat. Arrange pretzels in a single even layer, breaking some to fill gaps.
  2. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and heavy cream, stirring until combined. Bring to a full rolling boil and cook exactly 3 minutes without stirring. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.
  3. Immediately pour the hot caramel over the pretzels and spread quickly with an offset spatula.
  4. Bake at 400°F (205°C) for 5 minutes until bubbling. Remove from oven, sprinkle chocolate chips on top, and let sit 3–4 minutes until melted. Spread into an even layer.
  5. Sprinkle flaky sea salt and any extra toppings (crushed pretzels, toffee, sprinkles, etc.).
  6. Let cool 30 minutes at room temperature, then chill at least 1 hour until firm. Break into pieces for serving or gifting.
